The bridge was launched during night traffic blocks. Sixteen of the 28 steel bridges planned along the corridor are complete.
The first steel bridge of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project in Maharashtra has been launched over NH-3, also known as the Nashik Highway. The bridge is at Dive-Anjur village in Bhiwandi city, Thane district. It is 100 metres long and weighs 1,405 metric tonnes. It was launched on September 28 during night traffic blocks to reduce disruption for motorists. The main details of the bridge are given below.
The bridge has been crafted in Trichy region, Tamil Nadu, located approximately 1,300 km away from the launch site. The fabricated components were transported to Maharashtra via trailers and assembled on temporary stands at a height of approximately 17.5 metres above the ground. The assembly process involved the use of 22 skid arrangements and 54,076 high-strength bolts.
The completed bridge was pulled into position by an automated system. It used two hollow jacks of 150 tonnes each and pre-tensioned bars.
Steel bridges are used on the bullet train corridor for longer crossings, such as highways, expressways, major rivers and railway lines. Of the 28 steel bridges planned, 16 have been completed.
